Just after 3 a.m. on August 30, 2025, Dallas police were sent to the 2400 block of 52nd Street in the Cedar Crest area of East Oak Cliff, where they found 21-year-old Dortae Jarmal Ross, a male, lying mortally wounded from a gunshot. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The Dallas County Medical Examiner later identified the victim as 21-year-old Dortae Jarmal Ross, male, confirming the grim discovery that had begun as a routine shooting call in the dark, quiet hours before dawn.
