On March 9, 2023, 37-year-old Robert Diaz, an Uber driver from San Antonio, Texas, was fatally shot while on duty. The incident occurred around 8 p.m. near the intersection of Gibbs-Sprawl Road and Castle Cross Drive on the city's Northeast Side. Witnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots and observed Diaz's SUV veering into oncoming lanes before coming to a stop on a sidewalk. A man was seen exiting the vehicle and fleeing the scene on foot.
