On March 26, 2023, at approximately 4:45 a.m., Amarillo police responded to reports of a shooting at the intersection of Amarillo Boulevard West and North McMasters Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered three individuals with gunshot wounds: 21-year-old Javaurian Penns and two female teenagers, aged 17 and 18. All three victims were transported to a local hospital, where Penns was pronounced dead. The two female victims sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were expected to recover.
