On October 1, 2023, at approximately 6:00 a.m., Amarillo police responded to a 911 call reporting a shooting at a residence in the 4400 block of Parker Street, located in the Southlawn neighborhood of southwest Amarillo. Upon arrival, officers discovered 27-year-old Orlando Homero Garces Jr. deceased inside the home, having suffered multiple gunshot wounds.
At the scene, police arrested 25-year-old Daniel Mireles Jr.
He was subsequently booked into the Randall County Jail on a murder charge.

Orlando Homero Garces Jr., born on October 20, 1995, was a Navy veteran and a resident of Amarillo, Texas. He attended Caprock High School and later Amarillo College. Garces was known for his talents as a barber, his community volunteer work, and his role as an operations leader at Cacique Foods. He is remembered as a loving husband, father, son, brother, and friend, characterized by his genuine, caring nature and his ability to bring joy to those around him.
He is survived by his wife, Jacklyne Garces; their children, Kenia Nikol Meza, Renesmee Michell Garces, and Cassius Alexander Garces; his parents, Orlando Garces Sr. and Darlene Herrera; and his siblings, Teresa Ann Garces, Christina Olivarez, Desiree Garces DeSantiago, Brandon Michael Jones, and Hope Garces. Funeral services were held on October 5, 2023, at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel, with inurnment at Memorial Park Cemetery.
