On October 1, 2023, at approximately 6:00 a.m., Amarillo police responded to a 911 call reporting a shooting at a residence in the 4400 block of Parker Street, located in the Southlawn neighborhood of southwest Amarillo. Upon arrival, officers discovered 27-year-old Orlando Homero Garces Jr. deceased inside the home, having suffered multiple gunshot wounds.
