On May 19, 2023, 19-year-old Adan Tiscareño of El Paso, Texas, was fatally shot following a confrontation in a desert area near Horizon Boulevard and Mark Twain Avenue. The incident began earlier that evening when Tiscareño allegedly stole items from a 7-Eleven store on Horizon Boulevard, wearing a face covering and fleeing in a red Chevrolet Sonic.
Unbeknownst to him, 20-year-old Jose Manuel Villa and a family member, who were present at the store, decided to follow Tiscareño's vehicle, perceiving his actions as reckless and endangering others.
The pursuit led both vehicles to a remote desert location. According to reports, Tiscareño exited his car and began running toward Villa. Villa, armed with a 9mm handgun, allegedly ordered Tiscareño to "get on the ground" and fired a warning shot into the ground. When Tiscareño turned back toward his vehicle, Villa fired additional rounds, striking him once in the back. Tiscareño managed to return to his friend's location, where emergency services were contacted. He was transported to a local hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival.
During the investigation, Villa returned to the scene in a red Hummer and admitted to deputies that he had shot Tiscareño, claiming he acted out of fear, believing Tiscareño was armed. However, no weapon was found on Tiscareño. Villa was subsequently arrested and charged with murder. He was booked into the El Paso County Jail with a bond set at $1 million. The case has drawn significant attention, with calls for justice and accountability for all parties involved.
