On May 25, 2023, Martin D. King, a 45-year-old resident of Longview, Texas, was found deceased with a gunshot wound in the 1300 block of Twelfth Street. Responding officers pronounced him dead at the scene.
Following the incident, Longview police detained 42-year-old Michael DaShaun Jackson, also of Longview. Jackson was subsequently charged with murder and booked into the Gregg County Jail in connection with King's death.

Funeral services for Martin D. King were held on June 10, 2023, at Stanmore Funeral Home Chapel in Longview, followed by interment at Golden Hill Cemetery in Hallsville, Texas.
