On May 25, 2023, Martin D. King, a 45-year-old resident of Longview, Texas, was found deceased with a gunshot wound in the 1300 block of Twelfth Street. Responding officers pronounced him dead at the scene.

Following the incident, Longview police detained 42-year-old Michael DaShaun Jackson, also of Longview. Jackson was subsequently charged with murder and booked into the Gregg County Jail in connection with King's death.
