On May 25, 2023, 14-year-old Kavontai Chandler was shot in the 12700 block of Merit Drive in Dallas, Texas. Responding officers determined that another 14-year-old boy was responsible for the shooting. The suspect was promptly taken into custody, while Chandler was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. Despite medical efforts, Chandler succumbed to his injuries on May 31, 2023.
