Darryus Rice, a 19-year-old male from Duncanville, tragically lost his life on September 19, 2021, in a shooting incident in Dallas, Texas. The incident occurred in the Deep Ellum neighborhood, a popular entertainment district in Dallas. According to reports, gunfire broke out around 12:45 a.m. near the intersection of North Malcolm X Boulevard and Main Street.
Darryus Rice was one of six people shot during the incident.
He was critically injured and transported to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Another victim, 18-year-old Kenneth Walker, was also killed in the shooting. Four other victims, all women aged between 15 and 30, sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

As the investigation continued, another suspect, 20-year-old Omari Cooper, was arrested and charged with the murder of Kenneth Walker. Cooper, along with Pearson, is accused of opening fire in the Deep Ellum area, resulting in the deaths of Walker and Rice. The motive behind the shooting and the full circumstances surrounding the incident are still under investigation.
The Dallas Police Department has increased security measures in the Deep Ellum area in response to the violence. Community leaders and law enforcement are working together to address the ongoing issue of gun violence in the neighborhood.
