On the evening of May 27, 2023, 54-year-old Vicente H. Zurita was fatally shot at Mary's Car Wash, located in the 2900 block of Commercial Avenue on San Antonio's South Side. San Antonio police responded to reports of a shooting around 9:50 p.m. and found Zurita lying next to his truck in a car wash bay, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite life-saving efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Witnesses reported seeing two suspects fleeing the scene after attempting to rob Zurita before shooting him. One suspect, a 16-year-old male, was apprehended shortly after the incident. He was found with a firearm matching the caliber of the bullets that killed Zurita. Due to his age, authorities have withheld his identity.
Further investigation led to the arrest of 27-year-old Anthony Guzman, identified as the second shooter involved in the robbery. Guzman was taken into custody without incident on June 1, 2023, at the intersection of Apple Valley and Fur Valley. Notably, Guzman had been released from jail just 11 days prior to the fatal shooting, following an arrest for unlawful carrying of a weapon and a subsequent failure to appear in court. He now faces a capital murder charge, with bond set at $200,000. A conviction for capital murder in Texas can result in the death penalty.

The juvenile suspect's immediate arrest and the identification of Guzman underscore the effectiveness of the investigative efforts.
