Joseph Anthony "Joey" Matranga, a 16-year-old resident of Burleson, Texas, passed away on June 3, 2023. Born on October 20, 2006, to parents Tommy Matranga and Lori Beth Burns, Joey was known for his love of soccer, gaming, and building with Legos. He was intelligent, thoughtful, funny, and creative, with a caring heart and a penchant for entertaining others. His favorite pastimes included listening to music, dancing, swimming, and spending time at water parks.
Joey was also a creative writer, with his work "MY Story" proudly displayed at Kerr Middle School. In recognition of his exceptional character and integrity, he received the Jason Lenz Award in 2019.
Following his passing, Joey's parents honored his generous spirit by donating his organs through the Life Gift Organ Donation Program, finding recipients for all of them. A Life Gift Flag Ceremony was held on June 6, 2023, at JPS to honor his lifesaving gifts. A memorial service took place on June 12, 2023, at the First Baptist Church of Burleson, where family and friends gathered to celebrate his life and bid farewell.
