Amory D'sean Washington, a 21-year-old African American male from Burleson, Texas, tragically lost his life on December 9, 2018. The incident occurred during a drug deal that went awry. Washington had met with three individuals in the 1000 block of Remington Circle, near Southeast John Jones Drive, to sell them narcotics. During the transaction, Washington realized that the suspects had given him counterfeit money.
Upon confronting them, he was shot in the chest and later pronounced dead at Texas Health Huguley Hospital at 3:34 AM.
The Burleson Police Department launched an extensive investigation into Washington's death, dedicating over 2,000 hours to following leads, executing search warrants, and interviewing witnesses and suspects. The investigation led to the arrest of three individuals: Ashley Elam, a 21-year-old female from Burleson; Austin Cain, a 20-year-old male from Burleson; and David Medina, a 22-year-old male from Alvarado. Elam and Cain were arrested on January 29, 2019, and booked into Johnson County Jail on murder charges. Medina was arrested the following day by Burleson detectives and the Johnson County STOP Task Force, in conjunction with the Wichita Falls Police Department, and booked into Wichita County Jail for murder.
The suspects were charged with murder in connection with Washington's death. The Burleson Police Department executed more than 20 search warrants and interviewed over 30 witnesses and suspects during the investigation. The case highlighted the dangers associated with illegal narcotics transactions and the use of counterfeit money, ultimately leading to a tragic loss of life.
