On July 3, 2023, at approximately 3:05 a.m., Houston police officers responded to a shooting incident in the parking lot of an apartment complex located at 1221 Redford Street. Upon arrival, they discovered 30-year-old Erick Alexander Romero Otero inside a parked vehicle, suffering from a gunshot wound. Paramedics from the Houston Fire Department arrived shortly thereafter and pronounced him deceased at the scene.
Following an investigation, authorities identified 29-year-old George Dennis Western as the primary suspect in the shooting. On July 12, 2023, Western was arrested without incident and subsequently charged with murder in the 230th State District Court. A booking photo of Western was released by the Houston Police Department in connection with the case.
Funeral services for Mr. Romero Otero were held on July 10 and 11, 2023. A visitation took place on July 10 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Vazquez Funeral Home, located at 219 E. Crosstimbers St. in Houston. The following day, a funeral mass was conducted at 10:00 a.m. at Christ The King Church, 4419 N Main St., followed by a graveside service at Hollywood Cemetery, 3506 N. Main St., at 11:30 a.m. Family and friends gathered to pay their final respects to Mr. Romero Otero during these services.
