On July 11, 2023, in Lubbock, Texas, 12-year-old Jordan Alexander Rosales tragically lost his life due to a gunshot wound. The incident occurred at his residence in the 1900 block of 44th Street, where he was spending time with his siblings and friends. According to the Lubbock Police Department, a 13-year-old boy arrived at the house with a firearm. While handling the gun, the 13-year-old accidentally discharged it, fatally striking Jordan.
In the aftermath of the shooting, the 13-year-old was arrested and charged with manslaughter, evading arrest, and trespassing. Another 12-year-old boy present at the scene was also taken into custody and charged with trespassing. Both juveniles were transported to the Lubbock County Juvenile Justice Center without incident.
Jordan's family and the Lubbock community were deeply affected by his untimely death. Described as a joyful young man who loved the Dallas Cowboys and played basketball for Irons Middle School, Jordan's passing prompted calls from his loved ones for increased awareness about gun safety among children. They encouraged young people to "put the guns down" and engage in safer activities.
Funeral services for Jordan were held at Emmanuel Worship Center, with visitation on July 21 and a celebration of life service on July 22. His family requested attendees to wear Dallas Cowboys blue in honor of his favorite team.
