On May 8, 2024, at approximately 3:25 a.m., Lubbock Police Department officers responded to a report of a body in the roadway near North Loop 289 and Interstate 27. Upon arrival, they discovered 32-year-old Adrian Davila, initially identified by his legal name, "Infant of Davila," deceased from apparent gunshot wounds. The initial call suggested a hit-and-run incident; however, further investigation revealed that Davila's injuries were consistent with a shooting.
Investigators determined that Davila had been a passenger in a vehicle driven by 19-year-old Donovan Sanchez, with 16-year-old Bryson Thomas Jr. occupying the back seat. During the drive, an argument ensued between Davila and Thomas. Sanchez reported that Davila became increasingly aggressive and began reaching toward the floorboard, prompting Thomas to produce a firearm and shoot Davila. Following the shooting, Sanchez allegedly pushed Davila's body out of the vehicle and fled the scene.
On May 10, 2024, Thomas was arrested and charged with murder in connection with Davila's death. Initially held at the Lubbock County Juvenile Justice Center, Thomas was later certified to be tried as an adult due to the severity of the charges. He was subsequently indicted for murder and transferred to the Lubbock County Detention Center, with bond set at $100,000.
Sanchez turned himself in to authorities on June 4, 2024, and was charged with tampering with evidence for his role in disposing of Davila's body. He posted a $50,000 bond and was released pending further legal proceedings.
Adrian Davila, born on December 1, 1991, in Dallas, Texas, was a resident of Lubbock at the time of his passing. He is survived by his parents, Alberto Davila and Maria Isabel Contreras; his girlfriend, Tamara Renee Zuniga; his children, Aiden, Josiah Davila, and Brenda Lynn Perez-Davila; as well as several siblings. Funeral services were held in Corsicana, Texas, where family and friends gathered to honor his memory.
