On July 19, 2023, at approximately 11:55 p.m., Port Arthur Police Department officers responded to reports of gunfire at the Port Arthur Townhomes, located in the 3500 block of Turtle Creek Drive. Upon arrival, they discovered 29-year-old Jhamiah Clyde Dixon lying unresponsive in the parking lot, having suffered a single gunshot wound to his back. Justice of the Peace Joseph Guillory II pronounced Dixon dead at the scene and ordered an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
In the days following the incident, investigators conducted interviews and gathered evidence, leading to the identification of a suspect. On July 27, 2023, authorities arrested 17-year-old Brandon Deion Charles Jr. in connection with Dixon's death. According to a probable cause affidavit, a witness provided specific details implicating Charles in the shooting, which were corroborated by evidence found at the scene. Charles was located at the same apartment complex and agreed to be interviewed, during which he denied any involvement in Dixon's death. Despite his denial, he was taken into custody and charged with murder.
Subsequently, a Jefferson County grand jury indicted Charles for murder. He is being held on a $900,000 bond as he awaits trial. The arrest and indictment have provided some measure of solace to Dixon's grieving family and friends, who have remembered him as a kindhearted individual with a pure and everlasting heart.
