Jose Ray Riojas Sr., a 35-year-old man from Port Arthur, Texas, was tragically killed on January 22, 2020. Born on January 9, 1985, in Galveston, Texas, Riojas was a supervisor at a chemical plant and also founded 409 Boyz Production while working as a DJ on weekends. He was known for his dedication to his family and passion for music.
On the day of his death, Riojas was confronted by two men, Jeremy Jamall Roy and Larnell Mosley, at his home.
According to court documents, both men admitted to being armed when they went to Riojas' home to confront him. When Riojas answered the door, they pushed their way in, and within seconds, Mosley fired the first shot, followed by Roy firing at least one round. They then stole a gun from Riojas and fled the scene.
Surveillance video of the getaway car helped investigators identify Roy and Mosley. Both men were arrested within 24 hours and later indicted by a Jefferson County grand jury in March 2020. In November 2022, Mosley was found guilty of murder and sentenced to 60 years in prison. Roy pleaded guilty to murder and was sentenced to 30 years in prison in January 2023.
The motive for the crime remains unclear, but Riojas' wife called 911 for an ambulance, and despite being taken to the hospital, doctors were unable to save his life. The loss of Riojas deeply affected his family and the community, who remembered him as a hard-working and humble man with a great sense of humor.
The case brought attention to the issue of violence in the Port Arthur area, and the sentences handed down to Roy and Mosley were seen as a step towards justice for Riojas and his family.
