On July 23, 2023, at approximately 2:11 a.m., Edinburg police responded to reports of a shooting in the 3900 block of Garfield Avenue. Upon arrival, officers discovered 32-year-old Eric Michael Garcia deceased inside a vehicle, the victim of an apparent gunshot wound.
In the course of their investigation, authorities identified two suspects believed to be connected to Garcia's death.
The first suspect, 38-year-old Juan Miguel Herrera Gómez, was initially named shortly after the incident. Police executed a warrant at his McAllen residence; however, Herrera Gómez was not located, and his vehicle, a 2021 white Chevrolet Silverado, was recovered by officers. He remains at large and is considered armed and dangerous. Authorities urge anyone with information on his whereabouts to contact the Edinburg Police Department or Edinburg Crime Stoppers.
On August 2, 2023, Edinburg Police Department detectives arrested the second suspect, 44-year-old Edgar Ivan Gonzalez, a resident of Reynosa, Tamaulipas. Gonzalez was apprehended in the 6500 block of S. 23rd St. in McAllen. He was subsequently arraigned at the Edinburg Municipal Court, charged with one count of first-degree murder in connection with Garcia's death, and his bond was set at $1,000,000.
As the investigation continues, the Edinburg Police Department is actively seeking information to locate and apprehend Juan Miguel Herrera Gómez. Community members are advised not to approach him if spotted and to immediately report any sightings or relevant information to law enforcement.
