On the night of August 5, 2023, at approximately 11:35 p.m., Dallas police responded to a shooting incident in the 2000 block of Vine Lane, located in the southeastern neighborhood of Rylie. Upon arrival, officers discovered 36-year-old Hector Isaias Barrios Verdugo had sustained a gunshot wound during a disturbance at the location. He was promptly transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The following day, August 6, 2023, the U.S.
Marshals Task Force apprehended 37-year-old David Santos Flores in connection with the shooting. He was subsequently charged with murder and booked into the Dallas County Jail, with bond set at $500,000. Authorities also determined that Flores was unlawfully present in the United States at the time of his arrest.
Hector Isaias Barrios Verdugo was born on August 20, 1986, in San Marcos Catarina, Guatemala. He was preceded in death by his father, Felipe Eleno Barrios Vasquez, and brother, Waldemar Barrios. He is survived by his wife, Isolda del Carmen Guerra Muñoz; mother, Virginia Verdugo Cardona; and siblings, Sandra, Marcos, Maribel, Oswaldo, Carolina, Jorge, and Yanira Barrios, along with numerous other family members and friends. A visitation and funeral service were held on August 26, 2023, at Hughes Funeral Homes - Oak Cliff Chapel in Dallas, Texas.
