On the morning of September 12, 2023, Beaumont Police responded to a shooting incident in the 1200 block of Fairway Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered 36-year-old Freddie Alfred III, a resident of Beaumont, Texas, deceased from multiple gunshot wounds inside a residence. Emergency Medical Services pronounced him dead at the scene.
Investigators quickly identified 17-year-old Beaumont resident, Jordan Edmonson, as the primary suspect in the shooting.
Edmonson, who was acquainted with Alfred, was last seen fleeing the scene on foot, heading east toward Pine Street. Authorities described him as a Black male, approximately 5 feet 9 inches tall, weighing around 210 pounds, and wearing a navy blue Nike shirt, blue jeans, and black and white slides at the time of the incident. A murder warrant was issued for Edmonson's arrest, with bond set at $900,000.
After a two-day search, the Jefferson County Warrant Division apprehended Edmonson on September 14, 2023. He was subsequently charged with first-degree murder and held in the Jefferson County Jail. Investigators believe the shooting resulted from an argument between Edmonson and Alfred, though specific details about the motive have not been publicly disclosed.
In late November 2023, a Jefferson County grand jury indicted Edmonson on first-degree murder charges. As of December 2024, he remains in custody awaiting trial. The case has drawn significant attention within the Beaumont community, highlighting concerns about gun violence and its impact on local residents.
Alfred, affectionately known as "Lightning," was remembered by family and friends as a fearless and protective individual with an entrepreneurial spirit. He is survived by his parents, siblings, and three children. A celebration of his life was held on September 23, 2023, at Lacy Temple Cathedral Church of God in Christ in Beaumont, followed by burial at Greenlawn Cemetery.
