Jorge Ordonez-Perez, a 28-year-old Hispanic man, was killed in the early morning hours of December 19, 2023, in Austin, Texas. The shooting took place at the South Shore apartment complex at 2005 Willow Creek Drive and stemmed from a romantic dispute.
According to court documents, 42-year-old David Urias Mejia-Villagran had accused Ordonez-Perez of having a romantic relationship with his wife about a month before the shooting and had threatened to kill him if it continued.
On December 19, Mejia-Villagran used a GPS tracker to locate his wife’s car at the Austin apartment complex. He had his son drive him from Kyle to the location, and he brought a handgun with him. After his son parked nearby, Mejia-Villagran found his wife with Ordonez-Perez. He later told a detective that upon seeing them together, he "lost everything" and shot Ordonez-Perez.
Mejia-Villagran's son told police he heard two loud pops while waiting in the car. Shortly after, his father asked him for help jumpstarting his mother's vehicle. When the son approached his mother’s car, he saw her in the front seat and saw Ordonez-Perez lying on the ground next to the passenger side, bleeding but apparently still breathing. After the car was started, Mejia-Villagran dragged the body to the rear of the vehicle.
The investigation began around 4:50 a.m. when the Hays County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call from a witness in Kyle. The caller left the line open, allowing dispatchers to hear a man and a woman crying and arguing. Deputies arrived and found Mejia-Villagran with his wife, who was injured and subsequently hospitalized. Information gathered at the scene led Austin police to the apartment complex on Willow Creek Drive, where they found Ordonez-Perez’s body partially concealed by a concrete parking stop. He was pronounced dead at 8:44 a.m.
David Urias Mejia-Villagran was arrested and charged with first-degree murder. He admitted to homicide detectives that he shot Ordonez-Perez out of jealousy. In May 2025, Mejia-Villagran was sentenced to 18 years in prison for the murder.
