Her estranged husband, 46-year-old Alrick "Shawn" Barrett, arrived at the home of his mother-in-law around 7 a.m. to return his young child after a visit. Once inside, Barrett expressed a desire to reconcile with Francia. Upon her refusal, he opened fire, fatally shooting Francia, her two adult siblings—46-year-old Kacey Fullerton and 43-year-old Omar Fullerton—and
their 8-year-old niece, Aniah-Marie Sara Alexander. Barrett then turned the gun on himself, resulting in his own death.
The horrific event took place during a family gathering for a baby shower at the residence on Cory Carnel Lane. A 13-year-old nephew managed to survive by hiding in a closet with a 7-year-old child and their grandmother, who also survived the ordeal.
