On January 14, 2023, 33-year-old Richard Galvan was fatally shot while driving his red 2013 Dodge Caravan in Houston, Texas. The incident occurred around 9:40 a.m. in the 15200 block of Blue Ridge Road, near the Fort Bend County line. Galvan had left his home approximately 25 minutes earlier to run an errand for his family. After being shot, his vehicle crashed, and he was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Witnesses reported seeing an unknown suspect fleeing the scene southbound on Blue Ridge Road in a gray 2000-2009 Honda Accord. The suspect was described as a Black male in his 20s or 30s, with short dreadlocks, a beard, and possibly a mustache. He was reportedly wearing a black cap and a black windbreaker-type jacket.
Surveillance footage captured the suspect's vehicle following Galvan's van before the shooting. The Honda Accord was later seen on cameras traveling along West Fuqua and Fondren, eventually entering the Hunter's Glen neighborhood in Missouri City. Investigators have not been able to obtain a license plate number for the vehicle.
Houston Police Department Detective Josh Cain indicated that evidence suggests the fatal shot was fired into the rear of Galvan's van, leading investigators to consider road rage as a potential motive. There is no indication that Galvan and the suspect knew each other.
As of March 2024, no arrests have been made in connection with Richard Galvan's death. The Houston Police Department, along with Galvan's family, has appealed to the public for assistance in identifying the suspect. Crime Stoppers of Houston is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the individual responsible. Anyone with information is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at (713) 308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at (713) 222-TIPS.
