On February 10, 2024, at approximately 12:54 a.m., Kingsville Police Department officers responded to reports of gunfire in the 800 block of Vela Street in Kingsville, Texas. Upon arrival, they discovered 20-year-old Nicholas C. Guerrero lying in the roadway, deceased from a gunshot wound to the shoulder and a stab wound to the chest.
Shortly after the incident, 21-year-old Joshua Salge contacted authorities from Robstown, Texas, confessing to the murder of Guerrero.
Salge was subsequently arrested by Robstown police and transported to Kingsville for questioning. During the interrogation, he allegedly assaulted a Kingsville police officer by punching him. Salge was charged with murder, assault on a public servant, and tampering with physical evidence. He was booked into the Kleberg County Jail with a bond set at $530,000.
Nicholas Guerrero, born on December 23, 2003, in Kingsville, was known for his unwavering devotion to his family and friends. He was a cherished son, brother, husband, and father, remembered for his selflessness and willingness to help others. He is survived by his spouse, Azalia Rueda, and their two children, Nicholas Jude Guerrero and Nino Sabastian Guerrero. Funeral services were held on February 16, 2024, at St. Martin's Catholic Church, followed by burial at Santa Gertrudis Memorial Cemetery.
