Jarvon C. Coles, an 18-year-old senior and football player at North Shore High School in Galena Park ISD, was tragically shot and killed on March 9, 2024, at a house party in Humble, Texas. The incident occurred around 11:00 p.m. in the 4900 block of Fieldwick Lane. Coles, known for his academic excellence with a 4.2 GPA and his prowess on the football field, had plans to attend Lamar University.
According to the Harris County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to reports of a large gathering of teens and young adults at the location. Upon arrival, they found Coles suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was immediately transported to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Preliminary investigations revealed that one or two shooters fired from approximately a block away at the house where the party was taking place.
The shooting occurred during a party that had been planned on social media. The house was reportedly rented out, initially thought to be through Airbnb, though Airbnb later stated the incident did not occur during one of their reservations. Witnesses reported that a car with several occupants drove by and fired shots at the house. The suspects then fled the scene in an unknown vehicle.
As of December 2024, nearly ten months after the incident, no arrests have been made, and no suspects have been publicly identified. The Harris County Sheriff's Homicide Division, in conjunction with Crime Stoppers, has offered a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and/or charging of those responsible for Coles' murder.
Investigators have urged residents in the area to check their surveillance cameras for any footage that could assist in solving the case. They emphasize that every piece of information, no matter how small, could be crucial in bringing justice for Jarvon Coles and his family.
The community has rallied around Coles' family, with numerous tributes and memorial events held in his honor. Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts, a Channelview native, covered the costs of Coles' funeral expenses. Coles' grandfather, Braxton Coles, has established the "Crash Out for Cause" Foundation to address the issue of senseless gun violence and to keep Jarvon's memory alive.
Authorities continue to investigate the shooting and are seeking any information that could lead to the identification and apprehension of the suspects.
