On March 10, 2024, at approximately 3 a.m., a shooting occurred near the 700 block of Procter Street in Port Arthur, Texas, resulting in the death of 23-year-old Robert Scott from Groves. Scott sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was transported to CHRISTUS Southeast Texas – St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont, where he was pronounced dead.
The incident also left two other men injured: one in critical condition on life support and the other in stable condition.
The shooting took place near the Opulence Lounge, located less than a block from the Port Arthur Police Department. This marked the city's first homicide of the year.
In the days following the shooting, Port Arthur Police identified a person of interest who was hospitalized at the time. Authorities anticipated presenting the case to the Jefferson County District Attorney's Office for potential charges. As of March 15, 2024, no arrests had been made, and the investigation was ongoing.
The Port Arthur Police Department urged anyone with information or video footage related to the incident to come forward. They emphasized that tips could be submitted anonymously through Crime Stoppers of Southeast Texas, potentially earning a cash reward.
This tragic event was the second instance of gun violence in less than a year near the 700 block of Procter Street. In July 2023, a disturbance in the same area resulted in five people being injured, one critically, highlighting ongoing concerns about safety in the vicinity.
