On July 4, 2024, at approximately 1:30 a.m., Port Arthur Police responded to a distress call from a woman reporting a break-in at her garage apartment located in the 3400 block of 6th Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered two deceased men: one at the base of the stairs leading to the apartment and another inside. The victims were identified as 22-year-old Alfred Glenn Scott Jr. of Port Arthur and 24-year-old Corneileous Jarod Jones of Cypress.
Both had sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the upper torso.
Justice of the Peace Brad Burnett ordered autopsies for both individuals. Preliminary investigations by Port Arthur Police Chief Tim Duriso suggested that the incident may have been the result of a robbery or transaction gone wrong. Neither Scott nor Jones resided at the garage apartment; they were considered possible short-term acquaintances. The tenant of the apartment was interviewed, and several persons of interest were identified. Authorities urged residents in the vicinity to review security footage from midnight to 2 a.m. on July 4 for any suspicious activity.
As of the latest available information, no arrests have been made in connection with the double homicide. The Port Arthur Police Department continues to investigate the case, seeking assistance from the public to provide any leads that might aid in identifying the suspects involved.
