On May 20, 2023, 45-year-old Juan Pacheco was fatally shot in broad daylight at the intersection of Scotts Avenue and Aurora Street in Stockton, California. Emergency responders arrived to find Pacheco with gunshot wounds; he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Following an investigation, Stockton Police arrested 48-year-old John Ditmer in connection with Pacheco's death. Ditmer was booked into the San Joaquin County Jail on homicide charges. The investigation remains ongoing.
