On March 18, 2024, 26-year-old Keenan Landis Gill was fatally shot in a suspected road rage incident on the Fort Bend Parkway Toll Road in Houston, Texas. While driving near the intersection of S. Sam Houston Parkway and Hillcroft Avenue, Gill's vehicle was fired upon multiple times by an individual in a dark-colored sedan. He sustained a gunshot wound to the back of the head and succumbed to his injuries the following day.
Gill, a 2022 graduate of Prairie View A&M University with a degree in Communications, was known for his mild-mannered demeanor and aversion to conflict. His untimely death has left his family and the local community in deep mourning. In the wake of this tragedy, his mother, Kimberly Gill, discovered that her son was an organ donor—a revelation that brought a measure of solace, as a family friend was a match for his kidneys.
In the aftermath of the shooting, family and friends organized a balloon release to honor Gill's memory and to call for justice. Kimberly Gill has expressed concerns about the investigation, particularly in light of reports that the Houston Police Department had not fully investigated over 260,000 incident reports due to manpower issues. She fears her son's case may not receive the attention it deserves and has urged the community to "dial back your anger" to prevent such senseless acts of violence.
As of now, the suspect responsible for Gill's death remains at large. The Houston Police Department's Homicide Division is actively investigating the case. Authorities have urged anyone with information about the incident to contact HPD or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
