On June 3, 2024, at approximately 4:55 a.m., 18-year-old Tonya Medina was dropped off at a Dallas hospital with a gunshot wound. Investigations revealed that she had been shot while in a vehicle in the 3000 block of S. Westmoreland Road in the Oak Cliff area. Despite medical efforts, Medina succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.
Medina was a young mother of two children, Ace and Ava Marie.
She was known for her deep commitment to her family, often caring for her younger siblings and actively participating in their lives. Her nurturing nature extended to her own children, with whom she shared her adventurous spirit, frequently engaging in outdoor activities like kite flying and park visits.
Tragically, Medina's death marked the second loss for her family; her older brother, Joe Medina IV, had been fatally shot two years earlier at the age of 18. This compounded the family's grief, as they now mourn the loss of two children to gun violence.
As of now, the Dallas Police Department has not released any information regarding suspects or arrests in connection with Medina's death.
