Du’Vonta Lampkin, a 25-year-old African American male, was tragically found dead from a gunshot wound on May 5, 2022, at an Airbnb in Downtown Dallas, TX. Lampkin, a former University of Oklahoma football player, was staying at the Airbnb while waiting to move into a new apartment. His black and white designer backpack, cell phone, and wallet were missing at the time of his death.
The investigation into Lampkin's death revealed that Antwan Franklin, a friend of Lampkin's, had suggested
robbing him to another man because Lampkin was known to carry a lot of cash and was considered friendly and unarmed. Franklin and Erick Garcia were arrested on July 8, 2022, and charged with Lampkin's murder. A third suspect, John Williams, was also arrested and charged with capital murder by terror threat.
In December 2024, a Dallas County jury found Antwan Franklin guilty of capital murder and sentenced him to life in prison. Franklin was considered the "mastermind" behind the robbery and murder, having planned the crime and recruited Garcia and Williams to carry it out. Garcia and Williams are still awaiting trial.
