On June 8, 2024, 20-year-old Jyron Johnson was fatally shot in a west Harris County neighborhood near Katy, Texas. The incident occurred shortly before 1 p.m. in a grassy alleyway off Silverhawk Drive, close to Clay and Greenhouse roads, just blocks from Johnson's residence.
Authorities believe Johnson was meeting the suspect for a transaction arranged online, possibly through a platform like Facebook Marketplace. They clarified that the meeting did not involve drugs.
During the encounter, the suspect, described as a male in his late teens or early 20s, shot Johnson multiple times.
After being shot, Johnson attempted to flee toward his home, seeking help from neighbors along the way. Surveillance footage captured the sound of at least ten gunshots and showed Johnson stumbling across a driveway with visible wounds. He collapsed a block away and was pronounced dead at the scene by responding deputies.
Johnson's mother reported that he left behind two daughters and was expecting a son. The family established a GoFundMe campaign to assist with expenses following his death.
As of the latest available information, the suspect fled the scene immediately after the shooting and remains unidentified. Investigators are analyzing surveillance footage and other evidence to determine the number of times Johnson was shot and to identify the suspect. No arrests have been reported in connection with this case.
