On December 19, 2023, 17-year-old Jake Mason was fatally shot near Cypress Lakes High School in Katy, Texas. Mason, a former student of the school, was waiting in his vehicle to pick up his girlfriend when an altercation occurred with a group of individuals. During this confrontation, he was shot multiple times and pronounced dead at the scene.
