On the evening of July 27, 2024, at approximately 9:25 p.m., 62-year-old Ginny Lee Bagby was fatally shot during an armed robbery at the TimeMax convenience store located at 16160 East Interstate 10 frontage road in the Cove area of Chambers County, Texas. Bagby, a cherished store clerk known for her kind and generous nature, was working when the assailant entered the store and, without provocation, shot her.
Emergency responders arrived promptly, and despite their efforts, Bagby succumbed to her injuries after being transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston.
Witnesses present during the incident provided crucial information that enabled Chambers County deputies to swiftly identify and apprehend the suspect. The assailant, identified as 35-year-old Todd Carter from Houston, was located shortly after the incident. Following a brief vehicle pursuit, Carter was taken into custody without further incident. He was subsequently charged with capital murder and is being held without bond at the Chambers County Jail, as ordered by Precinct 4 Justice of the Peace Blake Sylvia.
The Chambers County Sheriff's Office has expressed gratitude towards the witnesses whose prompt cooperation was instrumental in the rapid apprehension of the suspect. Sheriff Brian Hawthorne remarked on the unprovoked nature of the crime, emphasizing the community's shock and mourning over the loss of a beloved individual. Bagby, originally from Lancaster, Pennsylvania, had relocated to Anahuac, Texas, where she became a well-known and loved figure in the community. Her unexpected passing has left a profound void among family, friends, and patrons of the store where she worked. A celebration of her life was held on August 31, 2024, at Sterling Funeral Home in Anahuac, where loved ones gathered to honor her memory and the joy she brought into their lives.
