On July 11, 2020, 17-year-old Jocelyn Chairez, a Hispanic female, was found deceased in the garage of her family home in Baytown, Texas. The Baytown Police Department responded to a report of multiple shots fired at the residence on Rollingcreek Drive. Upon arrival, officers discovered Jocelyn's body, along with her 49-year-old mother, Norma Martinez, who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
Norma Martinez was airlifted to Memorial Hermann Hospital for treatment.
The investigation revealed that the perpetrator was 52-year-old Efrain Lucatero, who was found dead in the backyard of the home with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. Lucatero, identified as Norma Martinez's husband, had shot both Jocelyn and Norma before taking his own life. Another adult female managed to escape the home uninjured and was interviewed by Baytown Homicide Detectives.
The tragic incident left the community in shock, as Jocelyn Chairez was remembered as a positive and caring individual with a bright future ahead of her. She had aspirations of becoming a pediatric doctor and was known for her unique style and infectious smile. No further arrests or suspects were reported in connection with the case, as the primary suspect, Efrain Lucatero, had already taken his own life.
