In the late hours of a Sunday evening in Louisville, Kentucky, the life of Jamila L. Jackson, a 45-year-old Black female, was tragically cut short. On June 2, 2024, in what should have been a peaceful night, gunfire erupted in the 3100 block of St. Anthony Gardens Drive, forever altering the lives of those involved. Friends and family remember Jamila as a funny, caring, and loving individual, the life of the party, who worked at Humana and had attended Western High School.
Responding to
the shooting at approximately 11:20 p.m., Louisville Metro Police officers discovered two women who had been shot. Both were rushed to UofL Hospital for urgent medical care. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Jamila succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. The second woman, who was also shot during the incident, was expected to survive her injuries.
The Louisville Metro Police Department's Homicide Unit is actively investigating the circumstances that led to the fatal shooting. At the time of the initial reports, authorities had not publicly identified any suspects in connection with the incident, and no arrests had been announced. The investigation remains ongoing as they seek to bring closure to a case that has left a community in mourning.
