Despite multiple requests, Cummins and his companions refused to depart. Surveillance footage revealed that Jacob briefly entered the house and returned with a handgun held discreetly behind his back, though he did not brandish it threateningly. As Fermin attempted to de-escalate the situation with his hands raised, Cummins drew a pistol and opened fire, fatally shooting both father and son.
Following the shooting, Cummins fled the scene in a vehicle driven by an associate but was later apprehended by Fort Worth police. He has been charged with two counts of capital murder in connection with the deaths of Fermin and Jacob Ramirez.
