On August 17, 2024, at approximately 1:51 a.m., Fort Worth police responded to a shooting at 2420 Ross Avenue, where they discovered 41-year-old Fermin Lucio Ramirez and his 22-year-old son, Jacob Ramirez, both fatally wounded. The tragic incident unfolded after a night of socializing that escalated into violence.
Earlier that evening, Fermin and Jacob had visited a local bar accompanied by two longtime friends.
One of these friends introduced 31-year-old Cameron Cummins to the group, an individual previously unknown to the Ramirezes. The group later moved to the Ramirez residence to continue their gathering in the front yard.
Around midnight, Fermin brought a woman to the gathering, recognized by one of the friends as a coworker of Cummins at a strip club. Cummins and others reportedly directed flirtatious and demeaning remarks toward her, prompting a consensus to end the night. Despite multiple requests from Fermin and Jacob for Cummins and his associate to leave, they refused.
Tensions escalated when Cummins drew a handgun from his waist and advanced toward the father and son, ultimately shooting both. Jacob was found in the driveway, and Fermin just inside the house. Cummins fled the scene as a passenger in a vehicle driven by another individual who later returned to speak with police.
Surveillance footage and witness testimonies corroborated that Cummins was asked to leave multiple times by the homeowners and others present. The evidence indicated that Fermin and Jacob did not pose a threat to Cummins at the time of the shooting. Consequently, Cummins was arrested and charged with two counts of capital murder for the deaths of Fermin and Jacob Ramirez.
The Ramirez family, mourning the loss of both father and son, organized a fundraiser to assist with funeral expenses. Community members gathered for a balloon release and other events to honor their memories and support the grieving family.
