Robert "Bobby" Renteria, a 62-year-old resident of San Antonio, Texas, passed away on August 27, 2024, following a tragic incident that has left the community in mourning. In the early hours of August 26, 2024, Renteria was operating as a rideshare driver when he became an unintended victim in a violent confrontation.
According to the San Antonio Police Department, around 12:30 a.m., Renteria picked up a passenger in the 1900 block of Anchor Drive, near Lockhill Selma Road. Shortly thereafter, an unknown assailant began firing at his vehicle, targeting the passenger. The passenger reportedly returned fire from within the car. During the exchange, Renteria was struck by a bullet in the back. He was found alone in his vehicle when police arrived and was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. Tragically, he succumbed to his injuries the following day.
The Bexar County Medical Examiner's Office later reported that Renteria suffered a stroke at the hospital before his passing. The official cause of death was determined to be a cerebral vascular accident, secondary to the gunshot wound.

Both the passenger involved in the shootout and the initial shooter fled the scene before law enforcement arrived and remain unidentified.
