On August 29, 2024, 48-year-old Heather Michelle Smith was tragically found deceased in her Houston, Texas, home. Her boyfriend discovered her body after she had not responded to his messages for several days. Upon arriving at her residence on Beechmoor Drive, he noticed the front door had been forcibly entered and found Smith lying on the floor with multiple gunshot wounds.
Investigators quickly identified 42-year-old neighbor, Christopher Braziel, as the primary suspect.
Surveillance footage from the neighborhood captured Braziel's silver Chevrolet Silverado parked near Smith's home around the time of the incident. The video showed him approaching the residence with a semi-automatic firearm equipped with an extended magazine. Further footage depicted Braziel entering and exiting Smith's home multiple times during the critical period.
Braziel was apprehended shortly after the incident. When authorities located him, he was wearing the same clothing and in possession of the firearm seen in the surveillance videos. He was charged with capital murder and is currently held without bail in the Harris County Jail.
