On July 8, 2023, 23-year-old Princess Ortega was fatally shot outside the Karma after-hours club located on South Gessner Road near the Westpark Tollway in Houston, Texas. The incident occurred around 6:50 a.m. following an altercation between two groups as they were leaving the establishment. During the confrontation, 17-year-old Jermaine Torres, who was acquainted with Ortega through family connections, allegedly opened fire, striking Ortega and a 29-year-old man.
Ortega was transported to Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The male victim was taken to an area hospital in critical condition.
Following the shooting, Torres fled the scene but was apprehended by the Houston Police Department's Crime Suppression Team on July 14, 2023.
