Cruz, an ex-convict on parole with an extensive criminal record, was said to be under the influence at the time of the altercation with Jesus at Rubalcava's home. Following the incident, Cruz was arrested and charged with murder. A magistrate set his bond at $150,000, a decision that has been met with concern and criticism from the victim's family.
Rubalcava and her family have expressed fear for their safety, arguing that the bond amount is insufficient given Cruz's violent history.
