On October 4, 2024, 37-year-old Edgar Gabriel Lucero from Sunland Park, New Mexico, was fatally shot at a Whataburger located at 650 Sunland Park Drive in West El Paso, Texas. Lucero was in the drive-thru line with his stepchildren and niece when a white Ford vehicle collided with another car and subsequently struck their vehicle.
