On February 4, 2023, at approximately 11:50 PM, the Santa Maria Police Department (SMPD) responded to multiple reports of gunfire in the 400 block of North Railroad Avenue. Upon arrival, officers discovered two adult male victims suffering from gunshot wounds. Both individuals were promptly transported to a local hospital, where one of the victims, 40-year-old Robert Valencia, succumbed to his injuries. The other victim survived, though details regarding his condition were not disclosed.
