In the early hours of March 18, 2023, 37-year-old Christopher Pudwill was fatally shot near the intersection of 34th and Q streets in Bakersfield, California. The incident occurred around 12:50 a.m., and Pudwill was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities swiftly arrested three individuals in connection with the homicide. Keith Hamilton, 34, was charged with murder and conspiracy; and 30-year-old Terrell Sheppherd faced firearms-related charges.
Investigations revealed that prior to the shooting, Kindle and Hamilton had been socializing and drinking outside the Family Food Market on 34th Street. Hamilton possessed a firearm during this time. Upon spotting Pudwill across the street, Kindle discreetly obtained the firearm from Hamilton. A third individual distracted Pudwill, allowing Kindle to fire eight shots, two of which struck and killed him. The entire incident was captured on surveillance video, showing Kindle and Hamilton calmly walking away afterward. Hamilton later attempted to dispose of the firearm, but it was recovered by the Bakersfield Police Department.
Both suspects were convicted for their roles in the murder. In September 2024, Kindle was found guilty of first-degree murder and received a sentence of 50 years to life, plus five years. Hamilton was convicted of second-degree murder and accessory after the fact, resulting in a sentence of 15 years to life in prison.
