On April 12, 2023, 34-year-old Claudio Joel Martinez, a father of four, was fatally shot while driving his Toyota Tacoma on westbound Interstate 580 near Lake Merritt in Oakland, California. Following the shooting, his vehicle collided with another car on an off-ramp and crashed into a pole at Lake Park and Lakeshore Avenue, where Martinez was pronounced dead at the scene.
