On May 4, 2023, 59-year-old Richard Lewis from Auburn, California, was fatally shot during a family dispute in the community of Martell, Amador County. Deputies responded to reports of a family dispute and shots fired around 7:30 p.m. in the 10000 block of Highway 49. Upon arrival, they discovered Lewis inside the home with a gunshot wound to the face; he was pronounced dead at the scene.
