On June 26, 2023, at approximately 2:20 p.m., Vacaville police responded to multiple reports of gunshots in the 1100 block of Cinnabar Way. Upon arrival, officers discovered 26-year-old Fairfield resident, Jayro Magana, suffering from critical gunshot wounds. Despite receiving immediate medical attention and being transported to a local hospital, Magana succumbed to his injuries.
Witnesses reported seeing a man fleeing the scene on foot.
Approximately one mile away, on Somerville Drive, officers detained 20-year-old Vallejo resident, David Lamont Herschel, who matched the suspect's description. A firearm was also recovered near the intersection of Nut Tree Road and Youngsdale Drive, believed to be connected to the incident.
Investigations revealed that an altercation had occurred between Magana and Herschel prior to the shooting, indicating that the incident was not a random act of violence. Subsequently, Herschel was arrested and booked into the Solano County Jail on charges including homicide, assault with a deadly weapon, and carrying a loaded firearm.
