On October 8, 2023, at approximately 4 p.m., the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office responded to reports of an unresponsive individual under a bridge near the 8200 block of Gerber Road in south Sacramento. Upon arrival, deputies discovered 37-year-old Joshua Rash, who was pronounced deceased at the scene by Sacramento Metro Fire personnel. An apparent gunshot wound was observed on Rash's chest, indicating a homicide.
Following the discovery, homicide detectives and Crime Scene Investigators conducted interviews with witnesses and collected evidence from the scene. Their investigation identified 60-year-old Richard Bradford as the primary suspect in Rash's death. An arrest warrant was subsequently obtained for Bradford. On October 10, Major Crimes Detectives located and apprehended him. Bradford was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on suspicion of murder, where he remains ineligible for bail. He made his first court appearance on October 12.

She emphasized the devastating impact of his loss on their lives and has been vocal about seeking justice for her brother. A GoFundMe campaign was established to assist the family with unexpected expenses and to honor Joshua's memory.
