On October 9, 2023, the body of 35-year-old Jami Narvaez, a mother of five from Modesto, California, was discovered near a remote driveway on Mount Pleasant Road in unincorporated San Jose. Narvaez had relocated to San Jose in July 2023 to stay with friends, leaving her five children—aged 16, 12, 11, 8, and 6—in the care of family members in
Modesto. The last known contact with her family occurred on September 10, when she called to speak with her son on his birthday.
The discovery of her body has left her family and community in deep mourning. Her sister, Roberta Correa, expressed profound grief, stating, "My sister was very loved by many people, she had a big heart. She put others first." Narvaez's mother, Doreen, also conveyed her anguish, hoping that the "monster who did this to my daughter" would be apprehended.
