Yolanda Najera, a 53-year-old resident of San Jose, California, tragically lost her life on November 9, 2015, during a violent hostage situation. The incident began when Leonel Acevedo, a 45-year-old former tenant of Najera, forced his way into her home on Camden Avenue. Acevedo had been evicted from the property in July 2015, but returned armed with a handgun. He took Najera hostage, leading to a tense three-hour standoff with the police.
